Who was Huey Long? It depends who you ask. In Depression-era Louisiana, opinions on Huey Long were distinctly divided between the “haves” and the “have nots.” There was no middle ground when it came to Huey Long — people either loved him or hated him.
The poor regarded Long as a champion of the common man and swept him into power by large majorities. The wealthy regarded Long as a dangerous menace and lampooned him in the media as a demagogue and dictator.
